Edwin Scharff was born in 1887 in Neu-Ulm, Germany. As a 15-year-old he left the city behind to study painting in the art metropolis Munich.
At the end of his studies the Bavarian State awards him with a travel grant. Scharff traveled to Paris, Madrid and Toledo and finally to Italy.
He copied works by Grünewald, El Greco and Velazquez, and outlined his travel impressions. Florence opens his eyes to the great sculptors of the Renaissance.
On his return to Munich, under the influence of travel large he creates paintings with striking plastically modeled figures.
Edwin Scharff has also included voluptuous women in his work. We would like to introduce some of these here.
