In an open air exhibition in early September in Berlin: The joyful “Chubby women” by Chinese artist Xu Hongfei. Until September 13th 2015, the sculptures can be admired on the Potsdamer Platz and the Lustgarten .
They float, dance, horseback ride, golf and cycle and have one thing in common: It is easy to see that these thick women (Chubby Women) as XU Hongfei calls his sculptures, feel comfortable and happy. The bronze coloured figures are up to 8,5 feet high, made of fibre-reinforced plastic and weigh up to 1100 pounds.
With these works Sculptor XU wants to enthusiast the German public for the modern art of China. His messages are vitality, self-confidence and peace. It is important to the artist that visitors touch his sculptures and take many selfies and photos, which then be posted on the social networks.
XU Hongfei born was 1963 in Guangdong Province in southern China. He lives and works in the provincial capital Guangzhou. After studying at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, he participated in numerous public sculpture projects in China. XU Hongfei is now considered one of the foremost contemporary artists in China.
